Of late, during the recent debate and passage of the latest COVID Relief Bill, Congress debated the efficacy of raising the Federal Minimum Wage. With an increased focus on retail and food service workers as "essential workers," the pandemic has put a face to the debate over whether the minimum wage should be raised. On one side, those in favor of raising the minimum wage argue that full time workers are essential and entitled to a "living wage" and should not be forced to live below the poverty line. On the other side of the debate are businesses, whose profits and viability may be jeopardized by any increase in the minimum wage.

The question is one that impacts each of us both as consumers, and individuals who have, or are about to enter the workforce. Should the minimum wage be raised? Discuss both sides of the debate.
