On 1 January 2011, the Australian Government's Paid Parental Leave Act came into effect. Under the scheme, eligible working parents (usually birth mothers) can receive up to 18 weeks' pay at the rate of the national minimum wage.In 2013, the Paid Parental Leave Scheme was extended to provide Dads (and partners) with two weeks of paid leave following the birth of their babies.
