On February 28, 2021, Isaac Legarreta filed alawsuit in the federal trial court in New Mexicodownload alleging that his employer had violated his constitutional rights by requiring him to take the COVID-19 vaccine.

Mr. Legarreta, an officer at a county detention center, alleges that he has been ordered to take the vaccine because the county has issued a mandate requiring all first responders to do so or risk termination. He has asked the court to declare that he does not have to take the vaccine and aninjunctiondownload (an order to stop or start taking a certain action) to stop the county from terminating him.The case is believed to be the first of its kind filed since the vaccines were released.
