On June 1, 2023 Elton John signed a contract with the City of Red Deer to perform a concert in Red Deer on October 14 at Westerner Park to celebrate the solar eclipse. On October 10, there was a fire at Western Park and the concert venue was destroyed making it impossible for the concert to go ahead.
