One of our responsibilities as board-certified behavior analysts is to provide supervision for supervisees who practice applied behavior analysis. Section four is the list of ethical guidelines for those who supervise behavior therapists, registered behavior technicians, and board-certified assistant behavior analysts. These supervisors initial eight-hour supervision training program and renew that training by taking three hours of continuing education in ABA supervision per renewal cycle. The Behavior Analyst Certification Board takes the responsibility of supervision very seriously. We are after all bringing up the next generation of ethical service providers. While companies that provide ABA services to consumers often try to encourage BCBA to take on many supervisees. Our code now specifies that we must not take on more supervisees than can be managed effectively. Just as practitioners must ensure that they only operate within their area of competence. So, most supervisors, this is basically the same idea behind the code that governs our acceptance of clients. We do not provide services to clients whose behaviors fall outsider training and expertise. Similarly, we do not provide supervision to supervisees who are in settings that fall outside or training and expertise. Additionally, supervisors are never assigned supervisees tasks that they are not sufficiently trained to handle. In such cases, the supervisor can provide the additional training necessary for the supervisee to effectively manage the task. Supervising these must be able to perform their responsibilities competently, ethically, and safely. It is the supervisor's job to ensure that performance. Supervisors design formal supervision and training programs for their supervisees, in addition to the training provided for specific tasks for a given situation. The training programs must be specifically outlined, and the supervisee should be provided with a written description of how such trading will be administered. The supervisee can expect to their supervisor to observe them during one-to-one therapy with clients' multiple times each month and meet with them four times per month for a minimum of 15 minutes per meeting to provide feedback regarding what the supervisee is doing well and where improvements are needed. Behavior skills training, which includes instruction, modeling, role-play, and feedback may be used during these supervision meetings to help supervise these, acquire the skills that are needed. In addition to the supervisors' responsibilities to supervises. The supervisor is also tasked with evaluating their own effectiveness as supervisors. If the supervisee is not making progress according to the supervision and training program outlined at the onset of supervision, it is possible that additional supervision feedback is needed or that feedback needs to be provided in a timelier fashion. Or that role-play may be needed to further practice specific skills or more detailed instruction may be needed. The supervisor can also assess their effectiveness by having a colleague or a boss provide feedback.
