One of the go-to moves in any business course is sharing a story of an organizational challenge and then discussing "you are a business consultant, what would you recommend"? Look at the recent story about tough times at Meta, as a company that was used to consistent high-flying growth and finds itself in a new competitive environment (Frenkel & Isaac, 2023). The founder and CEO, Mr. Zuckerberg, seems to have gone in a bad direction in trying to get virtual reality to take off and seems to be focused on catch-up in looking at A.I.

A first thought is the company probably needs a new CEO as no one leader is good for all seasons. The story resonates with fast growth times for a company and thinking, this will be interesting when we hit the growth wall. Then looking back, after a decades of layoffs and decreases is like "wow, what a ride." But at Meta (Facebook) this is the first time they have ever done layoffs and they are going to do a lot of them, so of course it is impacting moral and the culture of the organization.
