One of the issues you heard debated over the past couple of years is TPP, or the Trans Pacific Partnership. This international trade agreement was being pushed by the Obama administration, but getting significant push back from certain groups and has now been abandoned by Trump. The agreement seeks to write the rules for global trade. Currently, each country has its own trade agreements with other countries; a hodge-podge of treaties and agreements that often conflict and are often unfair. TPP attempts to put a global agreement in place, so that countries that sign on will all now what the rules are.
