One Variable Analysis - Measures of Central Tendency:

Question 1: share your thoughts for the following, discuss and justify their thinking, and or make a comparison to what is below

The central tendency I chose is the mode, and I think that using it to represent grades on a test would be an effective statistical summary. For instance, if the grades were 70, 75, 75, 80, 98, 70, 75, 75, 75. 75 is clearly the value that shows up the most, meaning that many students did not do well. This can suggest that the teacher did not do a good job in teaching the course content. I feel that the median would not work in this situation because by only taken the middle value, you are neglecting the extremely high and extremely low numbers.

Question 2: share your thoughts for the following, discuss and justify their thinking, and or make a comparison to what is below

The measure of central tendency I will be looking at is mean which is essentially the average of all the values in a dataset. This can be calculated by adding up all the values and then dividing the sum by the number of values. This measure of central tendency will be ineffective if there is an extreme outlier in the dataset. Consider the data set: (1,2,4,5,1,2,3,5,967). In this dataset, we can see that the majority of the data points are between 1 and 5. However, if we add up all the numbers and divide by the number of data points, we end up with a mean of 99 which is far from the range of 1 to 5. This due to the extreme outlier datapoint, 967 which is increasing the mean by a lot. In this case, using the median would be a lot better since the numbers in the middle are a lot more accurate.

Your response should be typed, I greatly appreciate it.
