In a classic study of procrastination by Lay (1986), in an introductory psychology class, students received a survey that measured procrastination. Participants were instructed to complete the survey and return it to the researcher by mail. High-procrastinating partici- pants were identified by their degree of agreement with survey items like, "I often find myself performing tasks that I had intended to do days before." Interest- ingly, the researcher also measured the amount of time that it took for participants to return the survey.
