Onway ANOVA and Independent Samples t-test

Suppose a researcher hypothesizes that, in the general population, left-handed people will rate themselves as more intuitive, on average (!), than right-handed people using a 10-pt scale on which high scores indicate greater perceived intuition. Here are the data:

Left : 7, 4, 8, 4, 9, 10, 10, 5, 7, 7, 4, 6 (n = 12) Right: 5, 2, 6, 1, 6, 9, 6, 10, 3, 1, 5, 2, 1, 5, 8, 1, 3, 1, 4, 5 (n = 20)

Using the formulas for a oneway ANOVA, fill in the source table below (show your work on a separate piece of paper). You do not have to conduct a full analysis and interpretation, just fill in the table.

____________________________________________________________ Source SS df MS F ____________________________________________________________

Handedness Error Total ____________________________________________________________

Obtain Fcrit from the F-table and report it here: __________

Is the result statistically significant? Yes No

Compute 2 and report it here: _______

Analyze the same data using an independent samples t-test. You need only to compute tobs. You do not need to conduct a full analysis and interpretation. Show your work on a separate piece of paper for tobs.

Report tobs here: _________

Obtain tcrit from the t-table and report it here: __________

Is the result statistically significant? Yes No

Compute 2 using the formula from the independent samples t-test handout. Report it here: ______

Square your tobs value and then compare the result to your Fobs value above. You should find the values to be equal, within rounding. Show values here: ____________________________

Given everything above, is one test (the ANOVA or a t-test) more appropriate for these data than the other? Yes No

Please Show Work, so I can understand.
