These inverted hierarchies of the tech companies require employees that are self-managing and very skilled and knowledgeable in their field. The company communicates to the teams their goals and supplies the vision and lets the teams go to work creating the product or service. They have been very successful with increases in innovation and productivity. Most of the other large Fortune 500 companies still cling to the old top down model, hiring workers that do very specialized task and a very narrow job description.
