Organizational management structures for businesses have changed little over the years. They are still primarily dominated by top down hierarchical structures. Tech companies on the other hand have been very successful using teams that are primarily driven by a product or service focus. These inverted hierarchies of the tech companies require employees that are self-managing and very skilled and knowledgeable in their field. The company communicates to the teams their goals and supplies the vision and lets the teams go to work creating the product or service. They have been very successful with increases in innovation and productivity. Most of the other large Fortune 500 companies still cling to the old top down model, hiring workers that do very specialized task and a very narrow job description. As our economy shifts and becomes more uncertain do you see the old hierarchical top down structures changing, and if so, why?
