Over the years, there has been a demand for alternatives to fossil fuels, because their advance effects on the environmental pollutions. Alternative fuels, known as non-conventional and advanced fuels, are derived from resources other than fossil fuels. Because alcoholic fuels (i.e., Methanol, Ethanol and Butanol) have several physical and propellant properties like those of petrol, they can be considered as one of the alternative fuels. As a chemical engineer at Sasol, you are required to produce specific amount of the alcoholic fuels using the separation system shown in Figure 1. The experimental data are presented in Table 1 for streams , 1, 1, 2 and 2; where, the feed rate, = 1000 .
