Overall, my opinion of Social Security has not changed much. I have long expected the system to eventually collapse and not expected dependable benefits to be available by the time I retire. This opinion is shared by many according to data referenced by Turner et al. (2019) that more than 75% of Americans feel Social Security will not be there at retirement. However, some of the things I read led me to realize that even if there isn't full funding, as long as the government continues to collect Social Security taxes, there will be something in the program with which to pay benefits. Those benefits might be more like weekly lunch money, but that's still better than nothing at all. Reply to this post
