Overview and Objective: Students will create three different summaries of a single research article in order to demonstrate the different ways in which researchers might discuss other empirical works. By practicing the varied ways in which researchers discuss prior work, students are able to gain both the ability evaluate the relative importance of works being discussed by others and the ability to better situate and describe prior research in their own writing. Instructions: Read the article written by Stamkou and Colleagues (2023) on awe, prosociality, and children. After you have read the article and understand its main points and primary findings, create three separate summaries of the article, including appropriate in-text citation, based on the following: 1. Summary 1: Create a 2 paragraph summary of the research paper that would be used by researchers who based their own study on significant aspects of Stamkou et al. (2023). Provide details about the purpose, methods, sample, results, and conclusions that would be appropriate for "starring paper" in a literature review. 2. Summary 2: Create a 1 paragraph summary of the research paper that would be used by researchers providing an example of research on child prosociality generally. Provide context and details for the research that would be appropriate for a "supporting example" in a literature review. 3. Summary 3: Create a 1-2 sentence summary of the research paper that would be used to researchers to provide additional support for a previous assertion or research summary. Provide enough information to be accurate and appropriate for an "extra example" in a literature review. Upload all three summaries, each with appropriate in-text citation, as a single document.
