Overview In this project, each student group will design and implement a database-system application on MS SQL Server or Oracle Database. Each group will deliver a presentation to report their work at the final stage. The purpose of the project is to gain practical experience on business analysis and database design. Project Scope Because an important topic in this course is database design, your project is required to meet certain criteria to help ensure that it is at least a little bit interesting in a structural sense. Projects that do not meet these minimum criteria will be severely penalized. The database for your project should have at least 5 distinct, significant entities. All entities should be somehow directly or indirectly related. You are encouraged to select one of the application choices listed below, and then analyze the requirements, and design, implement, document and demonstrate a working database-system application. You may also choose your own application provided it is approved by the instructor. Two groups cannot work on the same application choice, and the applications will be "distributed" on the first-come-first-served basis. If the application you would like to work on has already been taken, you will have to choose from what is left, so plan early. The result of your project should be a working implementation that uses SQL to manipulate data stored in a relational database.

Database Application System Chosen: Movie Rental The system should be able to store, create, update and retrieve details about the movie (category, ratings, year release, length of the movie, actors/actresses, etc). The system should allow customers to check the availability of the specified movies, provide top rental movie etc.

For deliverable #1 as part of the movie rental database application system chosen, the following parts should be included and compiled into a single document.

1. Develop a Cover page

2. Define and describe the scenario for which you want to design a database, including the description of the environment, its business operations, the people/users involved, and data to be stored in the database

3. Construct at least three (3) business rules for your proposed project scenario --- operational, day-day "rules of thumb" in your project scenario. For example, a shipping date cannot be prior to an order date for any given order, each student may register for zero to four courses, etc

4. Specify at least five (5) functions that you would like to implement in your system (separate from the above paragraphs, and written in the form of a numbered or bulleted list)

5. Specify at least five (5) significantly-different questions that the users of your proposed database system would like to have answered using your completed database (separate from the above paragraphs, and written in the form of a numbered or bulleted list)

6. Specify any assumptions you need to make (if appropriate)
