In assigned groups, you will offer well-developed critiques of one another's writing, focusing your attention on the notion of bodies and other related core concepts for this module. For this workshop you will submit two creative works (as least one in poetic format) for your audience. Please do not submit the same draft of your hermit crab as you did in Discussion 5. If you would like more feedback on this work, submit a revised draft. You will once again work within your assigned group in order to assure that everyone receives feedback equitably. You are expected to provide each group member with well developed (i.e. multiple paragraph response) critique. Outcomes Recognize and evaluate how writers use form, rhyme, sound devices, syntax and punctuation to create an effect. Explore the relationship between bodies and identity as expressed through writing. Develop a working vocabulary for critiquing and discussing craft and style in both professional and student writing. Demonstrate an understanding of craft and voice through the composition of two creative writings using the body to convey voice and identity. Instructions Rationale As you read in Explorations, the syllabus, and in other assignments, writing workshops are the core of any writing community. We have already discussed the intricate relationship between bodies and identity. This assignment allows you the opportunity to present your craft to other writers who value both voice and creative techniques. Your fellow writers are also studying similar material and will have the skills and knowledge necessary to recognize your creative decisions. At the same time, you will have the opportunity to read like a writer yourselfto enjoy the creative work of others and to gain a new appreciation for different writers' approaches to writing about bodies. Directions Assure that you have read the course Explorations for this module as well as the required readings before completing this workshop. Know who is in your group. Get to know themthey are the "core" of your writing community. Please submit two (2) of your own creative works (at least one must be poetry and one in your "hermit crab" form) for your initial discussion post. Edit and proofread your work before submitting (ideally using a word processor such as Microsoft Word). Post the text of your work into the discussion AND attach a .docx version of your work as well. This will allow your peers to download and place annotations directly on the work. Remember: including an audio recording of a portion of your work as an attachment is optional but encouraged. Please submit two (2) of your own creative works (at least one must be poetry) for your initial discussion post. Edit and proofread your work before submitting (ideally using a word processor such as Microsoft Word). Post the text of your work into the discussion AND attach a .docx version of your work as well. Use the suggested questions outlined in Module 1 and our Explorations in this module to guide you. Respond to your peers' comments and feedback. This should be a conversation. Remember that timeliness is essential; late posts do not affect just you, but your entire group. Limitations and Restrictions Poems should be a minimum of six lines and no longer than a page and a half. Prose should be a minimum of a half a page and no longer than 750 words. Visit "The Time is Now" by Poets & Writers Magazine for prompts and other inspiration if you are experiencing writer's block.
