Overview & Preliminary Work in Unit 3 Working in your teams you will act as if you have been hired as consultants to help the UoPeople Human Resources department by creating a Code of Conduct to include in their employee ethics training and in the Employee Handbook. Familiarize yourself with all parts and types of Codes of Conduct and reflect on what makes the most sense to include in a Code of Conduct for the University of the People Faculty and staff. The final Code of Conduct will not be due until the end of Unit 6, but you should consider what should be included (or not) in such a Code of Conduct before meeting with your team and engaging in the process of creating the finished project during Units 4-6. This preliminary work will allow you to begin immediately by negotiating the parts of the Code of Conduct and assigning the work to the individual members. Your team will be submitting a fully articulated Code of Conduct (you are encouraged to locate examples of Codes of Conduct, in addition to other research necessary to complete this task.) Your team will also be required to write a one-page rationale, at the beginning of the paper, explaining what components you decided to include, as well as what you decided to leave out and why. It will be important for someone in your group to capture these decisions/negotiations as the group works together. You will want to review the University of the People website to understand the organization better: Mission, Vision, Values: http://www.uopeople.edu/about/uopeople/mission-values/ About UoPeople: http://uopeople.edu/groups/faqs You should be jotting down notes so that you can hit the ground running with your teams in Unit 4 Units 4 - 6 Based on your preliminary readings, as well as your own ideas and experiences, engage in discussion with the other group members about the components of the Code of Conduct that you will create together. Talk over the things you think should be included, negotiate things that you think can be left out of it. Back up your decisions with research and precedent. In these discussions, your group should be identifying patterns of similarities and agreement, as well as outliers. Individually you may have to convince others in your group that an element should be included if others don't immediately agree. That's part of the process. You have been provided with two areas in the course to discuss and collaborate: A group discussion forum and a wiki collaboration area. Only group members have access to these areas and will be able to see the discussion you have and the work you do within these areas. You are also free to use tools outside of the course, such as Google Docs, Yammer, etc. if your group chooses to do so. The Final Paper Your team will be submitting a fully articulated Code of Conduct (you are encouraged to locate examples of Codes of Conduct, in addition to other research necessary to complete this task.) All group members will need to turn in the final version of the paper in the Group Activity Submission area in Unit 6. Paper Assessment The Course Instructor will grade the final papers. All group members receive the same grade. Papers will be assessed on the following criteria: Rationale Rationale gives the reader a comprehensive overview of the choices made by the group Rationale provides evidence of the group process, illustrating how decisions were negotiated References cited in this part add strength to the overall choices made by the group Code of Conduct Code of Conduct is comprehensive in nature and all parts are well articulated There is evidence in creativity in thought pertaining to how the Code is constructed There is a clear relationship between the Code of Conduct and the organization
