Overview You and several teammates will edit technical material for an actual or hypothetical client in the community. Examples of appropriate projects include comprehensive editing (developmental editing and copyediting) of brochures, documentation, grant proposals, or policy manuals. Your team will create a style guide and apply it to the original material. Your editing changes should be tracked in Word. If necessary, the material you edit can be delivered in print or as an e-book, but your team will be responsible for producing it as well as editing. This means your team will also need to proofread and design the final deliverable. Choaose from the following two options for your client editing project: Option 1 Choose your own project. Examples of suitable projects include the comprehensive edit (developmental and copyediting) of brochures, webpages, grant proposals, instructions, or employee policy manuals. Use your network, including your professors, employer, friends, family, etc. What's great about this option is the fact that it is real-world applicable, and often your group can receive both class credit and resume-worthy credit that employers love to see. It's a great talking point in interviews as well. Option 2 If you can't find any real-world manuals or other documentation that would work, you can always turn to Wikipedia to edit one (or more, depending on word count) of their articles. Have you ever seen that note at the beginning of an article that says it needs some copyediting help? Those are some excellent editing opportunities for this project. If you go this route, you'll need to create an imaginary client who has asked your group to edit the Wikipedia article(s) for them for some reason or another. Instructions for Both Options Your instructor will approve the project material before you begin editing. Your group will submit two pitches initially and then submit an informal proposal for the approved project pitch. Your proposal must establish an appropriate scope for your project. That scope must reflect the expected workload for TECM 4190: a minimum of 3 hours per week x 7 weeks x number of team members. For a team of four, a rough estimate is 10,000 words; for a team of three, around 7,500 words. Use the tool at https:/wordcounter.net/words-per-page to estimate the words for your project. A specific requirement cannot be calculated because a shorter document that needs heavier editing will take more time than a longer document that needs lighter editing. All projects should require developmental editing and copy editing. Overview of Project Deliverables This assignment includes eight total deliverables. A workshop has been scheduled for the final project deliverables. During your development of the project, your team will produce and submit the following deliverables: ateam charter two 1-page pitches for your proposed project a project proposal a brief project-status video update for your instructor NOTE: The evaluation criteria for the previous project deliverables is available in separate assignments in Canvas. At the conclusion of the project and class, your group leader will submit the following final deliverables to this assignment: a copy of the original (unedited) material from your client the edited material the final style sheet you created and implemented a cover editorial email/letter to your client explaining your editorial decisions and author queries Evaluation Criteria of Final Client Project Deliverables The style sheet will be evaluated based on: . components (potential to improve client material) applicability to material usability (ease of use for client) professionalism (potential to influence client's perception of editorial expertise) The edited material will be evaluated based on: match with style sheet (including comments) quality of copy editing (including use of MS Word Styles) quantity of errors remaining Your cover editorial email/letter will be evaluated on: content (quality and quantity) o overall/major edits o justification for editing decisions . organization, style and mechanics o client goodwill
