Page 1 of 2 O ZOOM + FINDING THE ACCELERATION OF GRAVITY WITH THE IPHONE In this activity you will measure the acceleration of gravity "g" with an App on the phone. Download the App Phyphox on your phone. The app has been created by the Institute of physics at Aachen, Germany. Here you may see a Video description. 1) Open the experiment: Acceleration (without g). 2) Select the tab Absolute acceleration. 3) Click play, and drop the phone from a certain height. Be careful to drop it on a soft surface like a bed! 4) Pan and zoom the screen. Find the interval of time of free fall. Acceleration (without g) Beach Abschne Multi Absolute acceler ation Collision with the soft surface Free fall region Fan and zoom Pick data .* More tools 5) Pick 3 data in the free fall region and take their average. Report the average on the table below. 6) Repeat the experiment 8 times. 7) On a google spreadsheet report the following table: Trial Acceleration of gravity "g" m/s2 1 3Page 2 of 2 O ZOOM + 8) Take the average of the acceleration of gravity 8 values using the built-in functions of the google spreadsheet. 9) Using the built-in function of the google spreadsheet, find the percent error with the actual value of the acceleration of gravity. error = 100 *- experimental "g" - actual "g'l actual "g
