Page 6 of 7 Problem 4: An a particle has a charge of +2e and a mass of 6.64 x 10-24 grams. It is accelerated from rest using a potential difference of AV and emerges with a speed of 1.075 x 10'm/s. The particle enters a uniform magnetic field of magnitude 2.20 T. The particle moves in a circular orbit being at right angles to the magnetic field at all times. (a) (10 points) Determine the period of orbit of the a particle. (4 points) Show how the units workout. (b) (5 points) How much is AV? Problem 5 Unpolarized electromagnetic wave (f = 6.00 x 1014 Hz) with an average intensity of 645 W/m enters an ideal polarizer with a vertical transmission axis. Assume the incident light is moving along the x-axis. The transmitted wave then enters a second ideal polarizer. The wave that exits the second polarizer is found to have an average intensity of 225 W/m. (a) (10 exam points) What is the orientation angle 0 of the transmission axis of the second polarizer relative to the first one. (b) (5 exam points) Write the equation for electric field for this unpolarized electromagnetic wave (make sure it has the numerical values in it with proper units indicated)
