PALA, (N-phosphonacetyl L aspartate) is an inhibitor which is similar to the substrate, carbamylphosphate, and aspartate covalentlyjoined together. Carbamyl phosphate is a competitive inhibitor of PALA binding to ATcase. Bound PALA prevents aspartate from binding to the enzyme, but aspartate alone does not block PALA binding.
