paraphrase This discussion post will cover the module 7 learning objective by analyzing the general legal prescribing guidelines for APRN's in the state of Ohio. APRNs can prescribe various medications and medical devices to manage acute and chronic health issues if exempted from the exclusion formulary list (Ohio Board of Nursing, n.d.). In Ohio, APRNs can prescribe schedule II-V drugs with certain restrictions. For example, the APRN must maintain registration with the DEA, have a Standard Care Agreement with a collaborating physician, and the prescribed medivations must be consistent with their scope of practice, national certification, and the prescriptive authority of the collaborating physician. Once the APRN passes the certification exam and the Board of Nursing processes their application, APRNs must register with their state's automated prescription reporting system. The reporting system in Ohio is called the Ohio automated Rx reporting system or "OARRS" for short. It tracks all prescribed controlled medications and two non-controlled medications, gabapentin and naltrexone, within the state. These systems are in place to prevent the over-prescribing of controlled substances and to identify high-risk patients, in turn, they reduce the incidence of illegal drug usage (Ohio Board of Nursing, n.d.)
