Parents should possess the appropriate or proper parenting practices, being well-versed in how children develop and possess skills in guiding children towards positive attitudes and behaviour, and in disciplining or correcting children when they misbehave (Berns, 2009) (Appropriate and Inappropriate Parenting Practices. Unit 4, P. 39-41). Identify and explain the appropriate parenting practices in your family based on these five (5) tools used by the Child at Risk Field (CRF) below:

a) Parents take into account the competencies of the child at his/her age.

b) Parents set realistic targets for the child to achieve.

c) Parents accept the positive and negative traits of the child and uses these traits and other limitations to an advantage.

d) Parents discipline the child in a permissible manner.

e) Parents provide the necessary tender loving care and encouragement.
