CULTURAL DIVERSITY IN THE WORKPLACE Why Cultural Diversity In The Workplace Is A Win-Win. Companies with cultural diversity are able to offer a whole variety of ideas, perspectives, as well as learning opportunities. This diversity comes with employees with different talents, traditions and experiences that may be very valuable for the company in order to develop creative and inventive solutions to one single problem (Schindler, 2019). This creates a feeling of positive progress for the benefit of the group and the organization. Such success encourages successful cooperation in the next company venture. Is cultural diversity an easy task? Successfully Implementing A Cultural Diversity Plan A cultural diversity plan must be implemented with effort and based on a good research. Otherwise, there is a risk of creating a situation where no true mixing and cooperation take place instead of having an integrated team (Klagge, 2016). Specific cultural groups may end up feeling excluded and overlooked, resulting in them banding together, creating an us versus them environment. For the successful implementation of a cultural diversity plan is necessary a holistic approach (Klagge, 2016). Diversity needs to be evident at every level in the organization; is imperative that even the CEO of the company believes in the cultural diversity and in its potential so they could "sell it to upper management, who can sell it to middle management", as Schindler (2016) stated. If they cannot demonstrate how this pertains to every employee at every level, the audience will probably sense the organization's lack of commitment. The answer is no. At the beginning of this process, it takes some time to get used to not only management but also members of the team. There are likely to be some initial challenges that come with the changes. However, solving this may be as easy as the human resources department conducting a few diversity and inclusivity training sessions (Schindler, 2016). If the change is quick and drastic, it may be necessary to develop a plan that not only deals with cultural differences but also a language barrier. If the company is multinational, is necessary to take into consideration a plan to figure out how the team will interact with new teammates who speak several different languages. Relationship and communication skills are critical for group effectiveness (Schindler, 2016). For them to be effective in achieving results, people-focused skills such as cultural competence are key.
