Establishing a new fast food restaurant in Timmins and the target market is unknown.

Objective: Conduct research to find out about potential customers and determine the target market.

i)Exploratory Research: Secondary data - In this section: students are instructed to go to the Statistics Canada website and record the results of research conducted such as Timmins demographics.

ii)Exploratory Research: Primary data - In this section: students must identify a research method to use (focus groups, in-depth interviews or other tools like social media) and go out and do the research.

Here you would either conduct a focus group, or conduct several in-depth interviews or use social media to conduct research. You must determine how many people to collect information from. Then you would record your research method and results from the research you did. Remember you are trying to find out who your target market is for a new fast food restaurant in Timmins.

For example, you could post on a local Timmins Facebook Group that you are conducting research for a school project. You must determine how large your sample will be. Here you would invite people to click the like button if they were interested in a new fast food restaurant. This research method is another way to find out if there is a potential market. You could see who responded and be able to see exactly who your customers would be.

Formal research design - YOU DO NOT CONDUCT RESEARCH HERE. Simply identify which research design type (Survey, Experiment or Observation) that you would use to solve the problem /opportunity and why.

Explain your research findings from the exploratory research conducted (what did your research reveal and highlight the results) and include recommendations (based on your findings what will you recommend)

For example, here you would summarize all of the results from the exploratory research you conducted and explain what it revealed about the potential market.For recommendations, identify who the target market is based on the research you conducted.

PART B - Design your own Survey

If you chose Option A for your assignment, design a short customer satisfaction survey for your new restaurant based on what the research told you would be your target market (no more than 10 questions).

If you chose Option B for your assignment, design a short customer engagement survey asking millennials to identify their communication preferences (no more than 10 questions).
