How might such biases affect hiring decisions, promotion decisions, political viewpoints, and social interactions? Are implicit biases unique to the topics covered by these Havard tests or do you believe there are other issues/topics as well? Have there been other occasions in this class (or other classes) in which you had strong prior beliefs about a topic/issue that had to be overcome before you could develop a deeper understanding of the material? Part B: Content Discussion- Labor Market Discrimination Listen to or read the transcript of the Freakonomics podcast entitled: "Is it Ok for Restaurants to Racially Profile their Employees?" What do you think about the issues raised in this discussion? Is hiring employees only from a given ethnicity a form of discrimination? Is it harmful? If so, who is harmed? Is it rational for employers to use race and ethnicity in their employment decisions? Is it profitable?
