Part I: Analyzing H & P Regulations: You have relocated to another state to accept a job as an HIM Manager in a 225 bed acute care hospital. The Director has asked you to research federal and local requirements for History & Physicals, documenting your research in a written report, as a first step in writing a new organizational policy and procedure for H&Ps.

To research and create the report:

1. Access Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services, Joint Commission, and your local Health Departments website and research the criteria for history & physicals.
2. Create a table listing the source (CMS, Joint Commission, etc.), and requirements pertaining to H&Ps from each source.

Part II. Change Management: You are the HIM manager in a 70-bed hospital and have eight full-time employees reporting to you. Your three clinical coders have expressed an interest in working remotely, commonly referred to as telecommuting. Youve exchanged emails with your Director, and shes asked for more information why you want to do this, what impact it will have on your department, and how you would like to move forward with this change.. Write a memo that: explains the rationale for this change (your vision and short-term goals); defines key stakeholders, and outlines your plan to investigate and/or communicate the change. Refer to this weeks readings on change for ideas.

HIM and Leadership: Describe the leadership traits and/or critical thinking skills that you feel would be most important as you try to build your case for and/or implement telecommuting for your coding team. Consider what you will need to manage the change with your boss and/or external customers, as well as guide your direct reports through this change.
