Scenario: Caf XYZ

Caf XYZ is reopening after a long shut down. The caf is known for excellent coffee and brunch. Now COVID has stopped there is demand for the caf to reopen at night on Thursday to Saturday.Therefore, there is plenty of demand for wait staff and the caf needs a new head chef. The caf seats 50 people.

You and your team represent the owner of the caf and you need to choose from the following:

  • 1 female head (from New Zealand) chef aged 23, inexperienced in Australia but keen
  • 1 female head chef aged 30 (from Nepal), lots of experience but not fluent in English
  • 1 male head chef with experience working at McDonalds only
  • 1 male wait staff who has downs syndrome but has 5 years experience and great references aged 30
  • 1 female wait staff from Brazil with very poor English (but studying at IH) age 19, on a working visa
  • 1 male wait staff aged 60 with Barista skills and great references
  • 1 female wait staff with one arm
  • 1 LGBTQI wait staff with lots of piercings with not much experience
  • 1 highly experience Barista with great references but unlikely to commit to the role

a. Write an email to the caf owner using the template below discussing:

  1. Your recruitment choices based on the needs of the caf and best practice diversity and inclusion practices.
  2. Any recommendations for implementing a code of conduct to manage diversity, inclusion, and respectful relationships in the caf.
