Passage A: Managing human resources is a crucial task, if employment laws are not followed an organization could be put at risk for fines and legal actions. When recruiting new employees checking references and backgrounds is important, but doing good interviews and asking open ended questions can give the insight into the candidates character. Training is a vital part of hiring new workers, as I belive that so long as they are motivated and willing to work, employees can be trained to become strong performers. I would like to see more organizations provide feedback and direction to staff than doing formal evaluations, which I feel creates a negative moral.

PASSAGE B: Teams explains the advantages and disadvantages of using teams. An important term I took from the chapter was cross training which is when employees are taught to do all or most of the jobs of other team members. This is beneficial to all of the members of the team in case someone is out that day, the work can still get done. Most jobs I've had cross trained employees. Team Cohesiveness is another term I took from the chapter which is the extent to which team members are to a team and remaining in it. Good managers should strive to help build team cohesiveness. Gainsharing was a concept that I have not heard before which is a compensation system in which companies share the financial value of performance gains, such as productivity, cost savings, or quality, with their workers. This is a great concept because it helps motivate employees to do their best work in my opinion. As an owner I would be open to this rewards system for my employees to do great.
