The purpose of this assignment is to gain an understanding of patents and intellectual property rights by conceptualizing a new invention that could be patented.

Idea Generation

Brainstorm and come up with an original invention idea within your chosen category. Ensure that your invention is:

NEW: It must not exist in the public domain or be patented already.

USEFUL: It should serve a practical purpose or solve a real$-$world problem.

NON$-$OBVIOUS$/$INVENTIVE: The invention should not be an obvious improvement or combination of existing ideas or technologies.

Research

Before finalizing your invention idea, check the Canadian Intellectual Property Office $($CIPO$)$ database to ensure that a patent for your invention does not already exist. You can use the CIPO website or database search tools for this.

Write a concise description of your invention. Include the following details:

$-$ The category of your invention $($Machine or Apparatus, Composition of Matter, or Method$).$

$-$ An explanation of how your invention works.

$-$ The specific problem or need that your invention addresses and how your invention is different from existing solutions.

Make sure your invention is something that cannot be arrived at with minimal effort or experimentation; it must be inventive.
