  1. Patients with hypertension (HTN) who also have insulin resistance (IR) are at an increased risk of cardiovascular events compared to patients with HTN without IR. The presence of HTN-mediated organ damage (HMOD), such as left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), has well-established adverse prognostic significance. However, there is conflicting information regarding the association between IR and LVH, so researchers set out to investigate this association in asymptomatic, Black, sub-Saharan African, hypertensive patients (Kianu Phanzu et al., 2021). Results from the multiple linear regression analysis of data collected by the researchers are shown in Table 4. LVH was defined as LVMIh (Left ventricular mass indexed to height) greater than 48 g/m2.7 for men and greater than 44 g/m2.7 for women.
