Your textbook indicates that a quantity is a vector by writing it in bold face type such as the vector A. This is easy to write if you are using a word processing program, but not if you are writing something by hand. When you are writing out quantities by hand it is generally easier to indicate a vector quantity by drawing an arrow above the symbol representing the quantity, such as the vector A. Accordingly, in an effort to minimize confusion, I will try to always indicate a vector quantity by using the "arrow over the symbol" convention. 1. Vector A has a magnitude of 5.00 units and is directed 30.0 counter clockwise from the positive x-axis (ie., 30.0" above the positive x-axis) . Vector B has a magnitude of 2.00 units, but is directed along the negative y-axis. Using the graphical method (ie., using a protractor and ruler): (a) draw the vector sum A + B and measure: (1) the length of the resultant vector, and (2) the angle the resultant vector A + B makes with the positive x- direction, and (b) draw the vector difference A - B and measure: (1) the length of the resultant vector, and (2) the angle the resultant vector A - B makes with the positive x- direction
