Pick a newspaper or magazine $($including online$)$ that you would hypothetically be writing for. You don't actually have to submit your op$-$ed to them. But you must tell me which venue this op$-$ed is written for. You must select a magazine or newspaper because this determines your level of writing, the background knowledge of the reader, the tone, and even the politics. You need to write for that audience and venue. In general, in op$-$eds, you should start with a hooksomething that draws the reader in and keeps them engaged. Remember, op$-$ed readers are not obligated to read your work. If they find it boring or bland, they will stop reading. Accordingly, your op$-$ed must be interesting.
