Amazoogle is a new, but fast-growing tech startup service provider that offers free email accounts and an instant messaging service to the public. Amazoogle has users all over the world that love to use its Services. To provide their services for free, Amazoogle collects data about its users and processes that data in order to monetize 1t. Amazoogle collects information about user characteristics such as name, age, sex, and even the content of user's email and instant messaging communications. This information is used to send highly targeted advertisements to the users to try to get them to buy goods and services based on their interests. This data collection and processing is very profitable. When users sign up for Amazoogle's services, they are required to check a box that acknowledges that they have read Amazoogle's privacy policy. The privacy policy states: \"Amazoogle takes your privacy seriously. We will never share your information with anyone outside of our company for any reason. Furthermore, we implement the highest cybersecurity measures to make sure your data is safe.\" Due to the sensitivity of the data and the highly effective proprietary data processing system used by Amazoogle, access to its internal servers is very restricted. Only a select few Amazoogle employees are authorized to access the user data, the servers on which the data is stored, and the data processing system. All employees must sign an employment policy that says they will not access any user data or system information for any purpose that is contrary to the company's interests. Because of its popularity and meteoric growth, the largest ISP in the world, BigBigTech, is interested in acquiring Amazoogle. BigBigTech and Amazoogle begin talks to see if Amazoogle would agree to be bought. During the negotiations, BigBigTech requests that Amazoogle share information about who its customers are, including names, ages, sex, email addresses. In hopes that they would be acquired by BigBigTech, Amazoogle agrees to share some of the requested data about its users and its system with BigBigTech. While negotiations are ongoing, BigBigTech secretly approaches Luke, the top Amazoogle engineer responsible for managing the user data storage and data processing of Amazoogle users. BigBigTech tells Luke that they will pay him $50,000,000 if he provides them a copy of the proprietary computer code for Amazoogle's highly effective data processing system. As Amazoogle's top engineer, Luke has unrestricted access to Amazoogle servers, the user data, and the proprietary computer code. Luke decides he wants the money and provides a copy of the computer code to BigBigTech. The same day, BigBigTech abruptly ends its acquisition talks with Amazoogle saying they are no longer interested in buying them. The next day, Luke quits his job and buys a mansion on the beach. Amazoogle starts getting suspicious and soon discovers what Luke did. Amazoogle immediately files a lawsuit against Luke, claiming he violated the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. Meanwhile, hackers have managed to successfully hack into Amazoogle's network. They targeted Amazoogle because they know that Amazoogle stores a lot of valuable information about its many users. It turns out that hacking into Amazoogle's network was surprisingly easy. They exploited a well-known security vulnerability that hadn't been patched. Then, they were able to gain even further access into the network by guessing an admin password which turned out to be \"123456.\" All in all, the hackers were able to steal the personal information of over 5 million Amazoogle users. Amazoogle soon discovered the data breach and was able to expel the hackers and patch the security vulnerability that allowed the hackers access. Amazoogle then notified all of its users of the data breach in accordance with state data breach notification law requirements. Some of those users had already started seeing fraudulent purchases being made with their credit cards and new lines of credit being opened in their names. Many users were having to spend many stressful hours trying to restore their credit scores. Many more users were concerned that they, too, would suffer some kind of identify theft soon
