PLEASE ANSWER THE FULL QUESTION

Atmospheric Pressure

Purpose To determine the relationship between atmospheric pressure and altitude in ground level up to 20 km (20 000 m) above the earths surface.

Material

Visit this spreadsheet of altitudes and corresponding pressures.

Procedure

a) Open the spreadsheet.

b) Choose five data points.

c) Record the atmospheric pressure and altitude for those five different locations (altitudes) in a table, using Google Sheets or your preferred spreadsheet program.

d) Using the data collected, plot a graph of atmospheric pressure (y-axis) versus altitude (x-axis). Make sure your graph is edited to include proper axis labels and units as well as a title.

Results

Paste your graph into a word processor and write a paragraph describing any patterns observed.

Conclusion

Briefly state the results for the laboratory, in general. This should be no more than two sentences.

Questions

a) Based on your observations, how does the atmospheric pressure vary with altitude?

b) Based on your observations, if your altitude doubles, does your atmospheric pressure decrease by approximately half?

c) Atmospheric pressure is caused by the layers of air molecules that are above you, pushing down. As you increase your altitude, the atmospheric pressure drops because there are fewer molecules above you. What other change occurs in the atmosphere as your altitude increases that causes a decrease in pressure?
