Please answer the I & II separately for the below discussion. Not a long answer.

I- The project's decision-making and consultive stakeholders are the ones who should receive the monthly project status reports. Since the decision-making stakeholders can provide direction when a project is at crossroads it is important for them to know of any challenges the project may have endured during the month. Consultive stakeholders are subject matter experts who are not directly on the project team but can provide feedback or input for the project team. The information that should be included in the monthly report is the project status, issues, and any metrics. The report should analyze the actual cost compared to the project's budget and any potential risks that are likely to arise. Metrics included in the report are the estimated times, as well as the associated costs. All this information is essential to the overall success of the project.

Language and cross-cultural issues that should be considered include the evaluation of a translator who needs to be present during project meetings or updates. Also, if some stakeholders are in different time zones, is it acceptable to host the meetings virtually? I feel these main points should be considered in the project environment.

II- In your opinion, who should receive the monthly project status reports? This project will have a vast stakeholder group given the development, and deployment of cell phone towers have environmental, cultural, local community, geographical, and wildlife impacts. Therefore, in addition to the customer, a communications analysis is required to ensure a list of all impacted community stakeholders is provided with a monthly project status report. The project manager should ensure that all stakeholders are identified and receive the monthly project status reports.

What information should be in the status reports? The status report should include information regarding planned tower installations, timeframe, completed installations, summary benefits to the community, safety updates, and information for stakeholder questions and answers. In summary, a multitude of report information may be included (Mulcahy, 2009):

  • Status information describing where the project now stands regarding the performance measurement baseline.
  • Progress information to describe what has been accomplished.
  • Trend information to examine project results over time to see if performance is improving or deteriorating.
  • Forecasting information to predict future project status and performance.
  • Variance information to compare actual results to baselines.
  • Lessons learned information for use in future project activities.

What are the language issues and what are the cross-cultural issues should Bob take into consideration?Bob needs to understand the communities in which these cell towers are built and work to address the cross-cultural and language issues needed to ensure information is received in a timely, complete, and accurate manner.

For example, I once led a project deploying tactical radio communications towers in the Havasupai Tribe Reservation in Arizona. The scope of the project was to install two towers in a two-mile canyon on the reservation to ensure there was radio communications capability for use during emergency operations. Written and oral communication issues arose due to the tribal elders being responsible for making decisions. Trust and communications patterns were significantly hampered due to historical events between the tribe and the federal government. Addressing unknown unknowns related to tribal leadership business practices, as well as federal government approaches.
