please calculate the theoretical yield and post a theoretical IR spectrum
Add 1.32g of potassium tert-butoxide (t-BuOK) in a 50mL round bottom flask. Add 1.00 mL of diethyl succinate to the flask followed by 5-6 mL of 1,2- dimethoxyethane. Reflux the mixture for 30 minutes. (Dont forget to add boiling chips!). Once reflux is complete, cool the flask until you can hold with your fingers and add 5ml of 10% HCl to the reaction mixture. Using a spatula mix the solid material with the aqueous solution scraping the sides to remove any adhered material. Soon, a beige precipitate starts to form and at this time, keep the flask in ice-bath. Suction filter the beige solid using ice-cold water to wash. Check the melting point of this compound (127-129oC lit.) and its yield. You should also obtain an IR spectrum of your product and check its purity using a TLC technique (acetone : hexane = 1 : 1 eluent system).
