CONFIDENTIAL 26 January 2022 Multicomponent of distillation column is used to separate the desired product which is para-xylene from component inlet which are toluene, nitrogen, water, pura-xylene, meta-xylene and ortho- xylene. The vessel has an internal diameter and height of 3.4 m and 31.8 m respectively. Plus, the vessel has 53 number of stages with fiberglass as the material of plate insulation (50 mm thick) and there are the caged ladders attached to the distillation column. The vessel is operated at the pressure of 1.9 atm and temperature 125C. By taking 10% of safety factor, perform the mechanical design of the distillation column. a) Sclect the best material to be used for the construction of pressure vessel with justification [5 marks) b) What is the type of corrosion that might be occur on the selected material? Discuss the method to avoid the corrosion [3 marks] c) Calculate the wall thickness of the pressure vessel 125 marks) d) Choose the suitable type of head to be used. [6 marks] c) Select the type of vessel support for the pressure vessel with justification [4 marks] 1) Design the selected support with assumptions. [15 marks]
