From your Module material and the scenario discussed in class Week 10, prepare a page action plan of how you will address the Resident/Staff/Committee concerns; and, a 1-2 page Q&A or FAQ sheet to circulate to staff during your meeting. It is important that you reference any associated legislative requirements which should form part of your response.

The OH&S Committee co-chair has requested to meet with you separately to discuss other issues related to the recent COVID-19 situation. The Committee, according to the Co-Chair, is questioning the validity of the direction you've taken in implementing the infection control guidelines. The committee members do not understand why all of this extra work has to be done when they already feel that they are preforming according to the existing policies. The Residents are also complaining the staff on a regular basis that they are being restricted and isolated within their own home ....and don't think they need to follow these new rules. What are staff supposed to say to the Residents and Visitors (who are now not allowed in the building).

At this point, assume your home is in the beginnings of the COVID-19 pandemic so the Committee may indeed be unaware of the mounting expectations from Public Health, etc.

Considering the information in the course material provided, develop a 1-page action plan of how you could address the Committee's concerns. As you summarize their concerns, you have outlined the following:

You have decided the best way to communicate and deliver a consistent message is to have a meeting with staff and provide them with a Question & Answer or FAQ sheet in response to their questions. You also know that you will need to provide supporting documentation/and evidence (resources), to reassure staff that these changes are for good reason and required. (Although required, it's important to try to get staff buy in). Here are the questions you believe you need to address.

  1. Who determined the need for these new practices since the on-set of COVID-19?
  2. Where did these new policies and daily procedures come from? Why weren't we asked for input?
  3. How long will these new practices last? When can things go back to normal?
  4. Staff has always followed strict infection control guidelines, why do we need to change?
  5. We do not feel they have adequate training to perform these new requirements, what is management going to do to address this?
