A surface water containing 80 mg/L of natural alkalinity as Caco, is coagulated with an alum dose of 140 mg/l. Determine if there is sufficient alkalinity present in the source water for the coagulation process. 2. Determine the dimensions of a rapid-mixing basin to process 1.0 MGD of water. The basin will be square and the depth will be 1.5 times the width. Use a detention time of 45 seconds and a velocity gradient of 700 s'. The average minimum sustained temperature is 70F and the absolute or dynamic viscosity is 2.050x10* b.ses/ft'. Two rapid mix basins will be constructed, with each having the capacity to process the entire flow. Determine 1) dimensions of length (L), width (W) and depth (D) and 2) power input in watts? Sketch a top and side view of rapid mix basin. 3. Design a flocculation train which has 3 compartments that are equal in volume. It is desired to have 2 identical flocculation trains which will process all of the flow through the 72.5x10 m/day plant. The water depth in the basin should be 6 m and should have a minimum freeboard of 1 meter. The water temperature is 200 the absolute or dynamic viscosity (st) is 1.002x10 kg/m-s.
