Exceptions to the General Rule(When the Limitation Period May be Extended)

1.Agreement of the parties to extend.

2. Part payment of debt or acknowledgment of debt (prior to expiration of limitation period) causes the period to re-start.

3. Fraudulent concealment of the claim by the defendant suspends the ultimate period.

4. Disability of the claimant suspends the limitation period.

5. Other legislation may override with a specific limitation period (e.g. the Student Financial Assistance Act provides for a 6 year limitation period for student loans)
