Such relationships may not involve biological or legal linkages. The important thing is that such groups function as families" (Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman, 2016, p. 182). A blended gay family is a couple there may be two men are two women that each have their own set of kids or adopted kids and come together to become one big happy family.

Some of the obstacles and challenges that blended gay couples may face. Blended families can have experience more differences or problems because of their increased prevalence of Blended families (Visher & Visher, 1988). As Gay Blended families coming out to their kids and families and trying to explain to their children why they are with someone of the same sex as they are, why they do not love their mom dad anymore. Introducing they're significant other to their kids. wondering how would this work? Answering any questions that the kids may have would be imperative to their relationship. Trying to figure out what the kids can call them and in this case it's about two dads and neither one of them want to be called a stepdad, so they came up with the name Bonus Dad which expresses to the kids that they have two dads to turn to now. Having to deal with the biases of the outside world and what they think about homosexuality and how it will affect their kids.

A social worker working with this Blended family, there are many aspects in which they can help address the barriers of homosexuality and heteronormativity for family treatment. The social worker can also assist the family in the LGQBT community with support for their kids and the parents as well. Statistics show that there are at least 21% Blended gay families in the U. S alone.) The social worker could advocate for the families to assist them resources needed because they are a blended Gay family especially in the school system, on their job and in their community.
