Individual Term Project: Stock Picking In the professional money management industry, fund managers can resort to strategies in asset allocation. stock picking, or market timing to improve fund performance. It is debatable which one contributes the most to fund performance. However, one important lesson we learned from Fundamental Law of Active Management (FLAM) is that if we are confident with our predictions of stock performance, a low N trading strategy may be effective, where N is the number of independent bets. The downside is that your predictions can go wrong and lose everything. This project asks you to pick a winning stock for the long run. The goal of this project is to learn how to pick a stock through detailed analyses. The realistic goal of this project is to pick a stock to make you rich! You are expected to work on this assignment individually and follow the guidelines below. Limit your report to 1 pages. Long-only investment . You cannot pick a stock less than 5 dollars. US common stock only (ADRs are ok). Add article citations, if any. This does not count as the part of content of the two pages. Do not copy a piece of news about a stock from any media coverage, such as Wall Street Journal, etc. Your report will be checked for plagiarism (see below). . Any supporting evidence should be in a Word or Excel format and can not exceed more than 3 pages. It you develop your own valuation model, you should put it in Excel. If a number (warnings, P/E, 6 year dividend growth, etc.) is used in your report, you should provide supporting documents. Any calculations require supporting evidence as well. In short, any debatable arguments should be backed up by supporting evidence You should apply the concepts from other courses and include detailed and informative analyses in your report, Lots of concepts we developed in class for portfolios can be applied to stocks as well. You should also state your intended investment horizon (no less than 12 months).
