A disgruntled employee (without a high school diploma) who goes by the name of Badger is red from his $18K a yearjob at a bowling alley. He is now adrift with no real long-term career plans, other than another boring, unfulfilling $18K a yearjob somewhere along the road. Accordingly, after being physically harassed by a gang in the area, he considers robbing his old place of employment in hopes of a quick score, and maybe enough 'street cred' to step into a worthwhile position in the world of crime. Below is the information he will use to make his decision: - Possible monetary gain of $38,000. Since he would like to extract some vengeance against his old boss, there is psychological gain - assume 572000 in value. - He picks up a handgun off the street for $100 and adds a ski mask from the sporting goods store along with black gloves and black hoodie for another $25. - While he knows the coming/going process at the alley, he still spends the equivalent of 3 days observing the facility, the deliveries, and the activities at closing. - Punishment for the offense would be 10 years in prison. - Assume the following -- 25% chance of apprehension, 90% chance of prosecution, 60% chance of conviction (he knows a good lawyer}, and an 80% change of doing time, if convicted. - Other psychological consideration if he's convicted he is quite sure that his girlfriend will begin dating his best friend assume $1,000 in pain and suffering... Use simple cost-benet analysis to determine if Badger should do the crime. Don't get philosophical we know he's potentially entering a world of no return, aka "Loserville," however his decision will be based strictly on the cost-benet analysis above, so we need a YES or NO answer.
