Technological advancements throughout healthcare has made caring for patients easier and more efficient for providers. The introduction of Alexa in Baker Medical Center is beneficial for patients and providers. This is because Alexa can provide exact information to the patients without the provider having to enter the patient's room each time they need something. Alexa would increase patient engagement in their care and increase consumer loyalty (Using How One Hospital Is Incorporating Voice Assistants Into Care Delivery, 2020). There are limits when it comes to the technological advancement of Alexa because her wording of an answer to a patients' question that is about their care could be vocalized differently which can cause confusion for the patient. If a doctor were to input the answer to that question and Alexa vocalized the doctor's answer to the patient would eliminate the confusion for the patient. RFID Technology is used to track patients on where they are within the hospital and to make sure that they are safe. This is of assistance to ensure care is being delivered appropriately to patients which will reduce the number of medical errors occurring. RFID Technology does have limits such as, not being able to pick up on the specific details of an exposure of a disease or if the staff member was wearing personal protective equipment. For example, during the COVID-19 Pandemic RFID technology wasn't able to determine how much of an exposure a staff member had to a COVID-19 patient or if the staff member was wearing their personal protective equipment (Mehta, Grant, Atlin & Ackery, 2020). Since RFID Technology stores a whole bunch of data, there needs to be limits on where the data is being stored to reduce any chance of a breach. This data consists of, patient information, medications, and staff members information. This information needs to align with HIPAA requirements and if it doesn't, RFID Technology should not be used (Mehta, Grant, Atlin & Ackery, 2020). Artificial Intelligence is a great idea to use in health care however, there are limitations since it is still being developed. When it comes to caring for patients and patient information, safeguards need to be put in place to ensure the proper care is being delivered to patients. A source of Artificial Intelligence can have many benefits to patients and providers however, there has to be knowledge known that technology can be faulty at times and this needs to be recognized immediately. Evaluating the equipment associated with the technological advancements frequently would assist in ensuring the safety for the staff members and patients. If the technology is in any way faulty, this can cause a breach to occur which would require administrative action to take place (Kamensky, 2020). Preventing data breaches from occurring would be to ensure that certain policies and procedures are followed when using technology in health care. These policies and procedures should cover aspects such as, proper access of information, password security, appropriate management and surveillance of security policies, and appropriate electronic safeguards in the form of firewalls, web and email encryption, and malware protection (Wagner, 2021, p. 341). Training staff members on these policies and procedures is also required to ensure each individual is aware of the policies and procedures regarding the technology used in the health care facility (Wagner, 201, p. 341).
