Case Study :Mr. Gaudet's Small Business Serge Gaudet operates a wholesale/retail drapery and window blind business in the small Canadian town of Sturgeon Falls, Ontario. The world economic crisis suddenly became real when banks would no longer extend him credit. In this words, " I had signed orders, contracts in hand, and my bank refused my line of credit so that I could buy the inventory. How was I to finance this deal? I had the contract and it was with a government hospital. Surely, this was credit worthy? What else could I do?" Mr. Gaudet managed through the crisis by negotiating newer, tougher terms with his bank. But the lack of credit was not his only problem. "Normally, I bid on requests for proposals and win a reasonable percentage of them", he reported. "Suddenly, there was nothing to bid on. Nothing. Every institution that was going to buy blinds was waiting- waiting for government aid that was very slow in coming. It was touch and go whether I could last until new contracts came in". TASK: Form a group of 3-5 students, consider the following questions, share your thoughts among the group and respond - 1. What are the main problems faced by Mr. Gaudet's Small Business? 2. How could these problems affect the company effectiveness? 3. What kind(s) of change Mr. Gaudet's Small Business should implement to get through this crisis? Justify your answer. 4. Imagine a change solution that would be chosen by MrGaudetto get through this crisis.Question#2: In reference to the case studies below. Please do a discussion (same way as for case studies in question #1) to address issues of integrity, ethics and law. Case Studyel A manufacturing company provides jobs for many people in a small town where employment is not easy to find. The company has stayed in the town even though it could find cheaper workers elsewhere, because workers are loyal to the company due to the jobs it provides. Over the years, the company has developed a reputation in the town for taking care of its employees and being a responsible corporate citizen. The manufacturing process used by the company produces a by- product that for years has flown into the town river. The by- product has been considered harmless but some people who live near the river have reported illnesses. The by-product does not currently violate any anti-pollution laws. Case Studyity An undergraduate course required for graduation has a reputation for being extremely hard to pass, much harder than similar courses. When posting materials to the class website, the teacher accidently posts a test with answers indicated at the end. The teacher notices the error immediately and deletes the test, but before she does so a student downloads the test. The website does not allow the teacher to see whether the test was downloaded, and because she deleted the test with the answers so quickly, the teacher later uploaded the same test without the answers and required students to take the test. The Student Code of Ethics prohibits students from taking a test when there is reason for them to believe they have confidential information regarding the answers to a test they are not supposed to have. Violations of the Student Code of Ethics are punishable. Case Studyits An international soft drink company has a signature soft drink that it sells all over the world. In India, the version of the soft drink complies with Indian food and health regulations, but is less healthy than the drink sold in the European market where the law is stricter. The soft drink company is obeying the law in India, but it is selling an inferior, less healthy product in a developing country.Answer the all the following short answer questions. Refer to relevant cases and statutory law in your answers where appropriate.
