Personal Fit Analysis Instructions The Personal Fit Analysis is one of the most important assignments of the semester. It will provide you an opportunity to apply much of the content of the course to a real-life setting that should be of great personal interest to you. In this analysis, you must assess your own personal characteristics as they relate to work organizations and job preferences, assess the characteristics of real organizations which you are considering joining, and analyze the degree of person-job and person-organization fit you would expect to experience should you choose to work in those organizations. One organization that you analyze could even be one that you currently for. The written analysis is due March 24. The goal of the analysis is to demonstrate your ability to integrate knowledge about organizations, people, person-job fit, person-organization fit, and (most importantly) yourself to create a thoughtful and well-supported written analysis. The analysis must include a thorough self-assessment, an assessment of characteristics of two different organizations (or occupations), and a discussion of degree of congruence between you and the two organizations (or occupations). Please assess at least the following: Self-Assessment: Your personal values Your work values (consult the O*net typology) Your career aspirations Your work interests (consult the 0*net typology) Your strengths (consult the authentichappiness.org surveys) Your personality (consult the Big 5 assessment) Your compensation preferences Your time-use preferences . . Organization Assessment (to be completed for 2 different organizations): Organizational strategy Organizational culture and values Organizational structure Job KSA requirements (using the o*net typology) Organizational compensation practices Organizational time expectations Both the self and organization assessments must include detailed (but brief) descriptions of the data on which your conclusions are based. For the self-assessment, these data should include the personal assessments completed in class, as well as self- reflection and conversations with others that know you well. For the organization assessments, data should include written materials about the organization (web pages, annual reports, industry analyses), and interviews with at least 3 members (or former members) of the organizations. A couple of examples: If I were interested in working in Human Resources and thought I might like to work in a place like MGM or Caesars. Then I would set up interviews with three people at MGM and three people at Caesars (a total of six people). If I was unsure about the industry/job I wanted to do perhaps I'm on the fence between working in Human Resources or working in sales. Then I would set up interviews with three people who work in Human Resources (it's all right if they work in different organizations) and then three people who work in sales a total of six people). After completing the self and organization assessments, please describe the degree of person-job fit between you and the position you are considering taking at each organization, and the degree of person-organization fit between you and each organization. Finally, compare your overall degree of fit with the 2 organizations, indicating which one is higher and justifying why this is the case. This justification should include a weighted criteria matrix. Please present the results of your analysis in no more than 5-page written document. Evaluation Criteria Personal fit analysis reports will be evaluated using the following criteria: Content (50%). Do you cover the most important points in determining person-job and person- organization fit and misfit? Does your analysis accurately reflect the principles discussed in the readings and in class? Do you correctly use organizational behavior terms and principles? Exposition (40%). Have you clearly articulated the justifications for your decisions and conclusions in the analysis? Have you indicated your information sources? Have you indicated the assumptions that you made? Have you provided adequate explanation for why you made those assumptions? Presentation (10%). Is your report clearly written? Are your arguments easy to follow? Is your report well organized?
