1. Change within a company can be very difficult on employees, especially if you have employees that have worked there for several years. Some may not like it because they do not believe in changing things that have worked for several years. Or if new management is implementing these changes, they could be opposed to the idea due to a lack of trust. Kotter's 8 phases of change could be used as guidance to avoid failure if a company undergoes changes.

2. I was very happy that Ted was able to see this opportunity through and successfully role out the project. I was very glad that he didnt let the CATCHUP Team discourage him from carrying out his vision. People with high levels of resistance to change are more likely to form negative attitudes toward new initiatives. This is because they are afraid of the impact of the changes on their employees. Ted, utilizing the Path-Goal Theory, helped his team reach their goals, by regularly clarifying the path to achieving them. He removed any obstacles that prevented him and his team from achieving their objectives.

3. You did a great job on the analysis. What I got from this rope is that Ted saw an opportunity for a promotion and he took it. Ted played the long game. I think this is a perfect example of Machiavellianism. The use of manipulation, a cynical view of human nature, and a moral code that puts results over principals (Kinicki, 2021). Faust says that the organization is full of negative nancy types, which is the cynical view of human nature. While everyone was saying no the proposal, Ted, being the opportunist that he is, said yes and he negotiated special powers for himself knowing he would not see the job through to completion. While Ted was on his mission to the top, he made a bunch of promises which made people mad (stirring up the sand as Faust put it) then left before the project was complete.This left Stanely and Faust to wonder what he accomplished besides making some good people unhappy. This would be the part of machiavellianism about the moral code. Ted also made sure to announce his accomplishments to everyone and CC'd Marsh on emails. He then decided to put on a dog an pony show with corporate with a halfway done project knowing he would get heralded with a flood of memos.

With all that being said, I think organizations need people like Ted and this is what Faust was hinting to. He is saying if organizations didn't have people like Ted to go against the flow, nothing would get done and sometimes you even end up with a pearl.
