Good day class,
For this weeks discussion, I think using my workplace as an example of how data systems have improved our "company's" communication process. With a workforce of about 20 people, getting everyone on the same page can be overwhelming. Originally, assignments were given out in paper or face to face interactions. Two immediate problems with this line of communication were the losing of the assignment and forgetting what was said to an individual. According to Alisha Maxwell, "Intranet Connections" data is one of the best tools to keeping employees aware and accountable. With information systems it can inform employees with notifications. messages and or alerts. All of these things increasing efficiency in the workplace.
The office introduced the app Slack; a messaging application that transformed the way the organization communicated. One way this app has been utilized effectively is the creation of channels. Information can be sent to one specific section that is created with members assigned, versus the entire office. This cuts down on the excess of information someone needs to be aware of. This introduction also allows for direct messaging where information can be sent directly to another individual. Lastly, this app has the ability to mass communicate, everyone will receive a wanted notification. Another information system that is used is a platform called Trello. Trello builds team collaboration, but also has key communicative features. Each user has the ability to comment on certain projects and will be notified via alerts and or notifications if datelines or information on assignments change at a moments notice. This keeps employees informed and accountable.
