Purpose: The purpose of this learning activity is to demonstrate the understanding of correlation and regression and how they could be important in your future practice.
Instructions: Submit 1 paragraph answering the following questions:

- What are the differences between results that demonstrate a correlation between two variables and results where a regression is run using two variables?
Results that demonstrate a correlation between two variables supports that the variables are related either positively (variables directly related) or negatively (variables are inversely related). Correlation does not mean causation; just because two variables are correlated does not mean that one caused the other.
However, once a correlation is established between variables; a regression can be run in which one variable is used to predict the other variable. In other words, a regression uses the relationship between variables as a basis for prediction.
- Think about your future clinical role and provide a clinical example of variables that you may want a correlation analysis run and explain.
In the future I hope to work at a primary care doctors office. It would be reasonable to show patients a scatterplot of height and weight related to the growth of children. A scatterplot would be able to display the positive correlation between the two variables (height and weight). A correlation analysis would be beneficial to education the patient and family members on how as the child continues to grow both weight and height will increase (positively related).

Furthermore, it would be reasonable to educate parents on the expected height and weight of their child as they grow. A regression analysis could be ran to describe the relationship between variables and make predictions. As the child grows both weight and height will increase (positively related). The regression analysis can then be used to predict weight based on a patient's height.
